Zielinski Announced as Gaudreau Award Finalist

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers are excited to announce Blake Zielinski as a finalist for the United States Hockey League (USHL) Gaudreau Award.

The Gaudreau Award honors the late Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, whose impact on and off the ice still resonates deeply with the hockey community. The Gaudreau brothers were celebrated for their exceptional play on the ice, but also embodying the spirit of the game and the incredible care and love they had for their family, teammates, and communities. This honor goes to a player who exhibits excellence in hockey, spirit of the game, and care and responsibility.

Each USHL team nominates one player who embodies these characteristics to be considered for the Gaudreau Award. The Buccaneers selected forward and alternate captain Blake Zielinski, who exhibits these traits through his passion and excellence on the ice and his dedication to his family, friends, and the greater community.

Zielinski joined the Bucs midway through the 2024-25 season, seeing ice in 41 games and totaling 32P (13G, 19A) his rookie season. So far through the 2025-26 season, he has averaged over a point per game through 49 games played. Zielinski competed with Team USA at both the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the World Junior "A" Challenge in 2025.

"Despite his elite talent, Blake competes with humility and respect for the game," said Head Coach and President of Hockey Operations Derek Damon. "He understands that success is built through team effort, and he consistently uses his ability not just to stand out, but to lift the performance and confidence of everyone around him."

Zielinski's impact on the team will be felt for years to come. He sets the standard, approaching every practice and game with a commitment to bettering himself and those around him. He prioritizes the success and culture of the team above all else.
