West Des Moines, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers (24-25-4-4) dominated the Fargo Force (35-17-3-2) Saturday night with a final score of 5-1 at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex. The Bucs saw five different goal scorers, and forward Jakub Dubravik led the offense of the night with a goal and primary assist. Alan Lendak (18-10-1-0) stopped 26 of 27 shots by the Force in the victory. The Bucs look ahead to a Wednesday night matchup in Cedar Rapids against the RoughRiders on March 25 at 7:05 p.m. at ImOn Ice Arena.
Force forward Cullen McCrate opened the scoring of the match with the lone goal of the first period at 15:31, sending his one-time shot from the top of the right-wing circle flying to the back of the net to bring Fargo ahead 1-0.
Bucs forward Joseph Argentina evened the score 8:05 into the middle frame. Adam Zidlicky's cross-ice pass found Jakub Dubravik in the right-wing circle, whose back-handed centering pass met Argentina's one-time shot from the slot. Argentina's 10th goal on the season evened the score at 1-1. Another tic-tac-toe play from forwards Blake Zielinski, Riley Zupfer, and Henry Major brought Des Moines ahead 2-1 at 11:02. Major finished the play for his seventh goal of the season to pull the Bucs ahead 2-1.
Forward Owen Tylec extended the Bucs lead to 3-1 10:54 into the final frame, finishing out a play from Ryan Seelinger and Rhys Wallin for his 15th goal of the season. Dubravik capitalized on a 2-on-1 opportunity with Zidlicky at 15:20 to bring the Des Moines advantage to 4-1. Defenseman Keaton Orrey capped off the scoring of the match with an empty-net goal at 17:42, assisted by Riley Zupfer, for a final score of 5-1.
The Bucs head to Cedar Rapids for a pair of Dupaco Cowbell Cup games against the RoughRiders next Wednesday, Mar. 27, and Friday, Mar. 29, at 7:05 p.m. at ImOn Ice Arena.
