BUCS DROP 5-2 MATCH TO BLACK HAWKS

West Des Moines, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers (21-22-3-4) fell to the Waterloo Black Hawks (13-32-2-2) in a Dupaco Cowbell Cup matchup Sunday afternoon at the MidAmerican Ennergy Company RecPlex. Waterloo forwards Drew Waterfield and Ty Mason led the scoring of the match, each tallying 2G and 1A, and the Hawks were backstopped by Dane Callaway's (4-6-1-1) 35 saves on the night. The Bucs look ahead to another home Dupaco Cowbell Cup matchup Friday night as they host the Dubuque Fighting Saints for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex.

Waterloo forward Owen DeGraff brought the Black Hawks the initial 1-0 lead with a goal from the crease just 2:25 into the first period off a back-handed pass from Rio Treharne behind the net. Ty Mason doubled the Black Hawks lead with his power-play goal at 15:57 to show a score of 2-0. Bucs forward Ryan Seelinger responded at 18:41, sending Owen Tylec's rebounded shot top-shelf to cut the deficit to 2-1. Defenseman Nick Koering also assisted on Seelinger's 28th goal of the season. Drew Waterfield restored the two-goal lead for Waterloo at 19:49 to show a score of 3-1 after the opening frame.

Mason found the back of the net for his second of the night and the lone goal of the second period on the power-play at 10:58 to extend the Hawks lead to 4-1.

Seelinger narrowed the deficit once more 14:14 into the final frame with his second of the night and 29th goal on the season. His tally that brought the score to 4-2 was assisted by Koering and Jason Davenport. Waterfield capped off the scoring of the match with an empty-net goal at 18:52 to bring the final score to 5-2.

The Bucs return for another home weekend, kicking off Friday, Mar. 6, with a 7:05 p.m. Dupaco Cowbell Cup matchup against the Dubuque Fighting Saints at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex. It is Buccaneers Nationals, presented by Knoxville Raceway! Featuring a Buccaneers Nationals race on the ice during intermission, it is also a Buzzballz college night, Fireball Friday, and 2-for-1 beer night. Saturday the Bucs host the Sioux City Musketeers at 7:05 p.m. for Faith & Family night, presented by Thrivent. The Bucs will host guest speakers as we celebrate what matters most.
