West Des Moines, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers (21-21-3-4) fell 3-1 to the Sioux Falls Stampede (34-15-2-0) Saturday night at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex. Sioux Falls forward Joey Macrina led the Stampede offense with the game-winning goal and an assist on the night, and the win was backstopped by goaltender Linards Feldbergs, who stopped 25 of 26 Buccaneers shots.
After a scoreless first, Sioux Falls defenseman Matthew Grimes opened the scoring of the match with his wide-angle goal just 16 seconds into the middle frame to bring the Stampede ahead 1-0. Bucs forward Riley Zupfer responded with his 11th goal on the season 34 seconds later, forcing the puck past Feldbergs off his own rebound 50 seconds into the period. Zupfer's goal evened the score at 1-1 and was assisted by Owen Tylec and Blake Zielinski. Stampede forward Joey Macrinan redirected Jake Prunty's shot past Nikolaev at 3:17 to restore the Sioux Falls lead at 2-1.
Stampede forward Wade Weil capped off the scoring of the game with a goal 8:28 into the final frame, showing a final score of 3-1.
