West Des Moines, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers (19-19-3-4) dominated the Lincoln Stars (20-22-4-1) with a final score of 4-1 in a Tuesday night showdown at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex. Bucs forward Owen Tylec's pair of power-play goals launched Des Moines to victory as Alan Lendak (13-9-0-0) backstopped the win with 15 saves. The Bucs look ahead to a pair of matchups against the Madison Capitols next Friday and Saturday at Bob Suter's Legacy20 Arena Middleton.
Bucs forward Adam Zidlicky netted the opening goal of the contest to give Des Moines the 1-0 lead just 1:36 into the first period. Forward Henry Major picked up the loose puck off Joseph Argentina's face-off win in the right-wing circle, passing to Zidlicky, whose shot from the slot found its way top-shelf for his fifth goal on the season. Forward Owen Tylec extended the Bucs lead to 2-0, picking up Rhys Wallin's rebounded shot on the power play at 13:29. Tylec's 11th goal on the season was also assisted by defenseman Ryland Randle.
Tylec buried a one-time shot from the right-wing circle off a pass from Randle for his second goal on the night 18:02 into the middle frame. Tylec's power-play goal was also assisted by Major, showing the Bucs ahead 3-0. Lincoln's Layne Loomer found the back of the net at 19:51 to cut the Stars' deficit to 3-1.
Des Moines forward Cade De St. Hubert capped the scoring of the game with an empty-net goal 19:01 into the final period. De St. Hubert's second goal of the season was assisted by Blake Zielinski and extended the Bucs lead for a final score of 4-1.
The Bucs look ahead to a weekend in Madison, Wis., for a pair of matchups against the Capitols next Friday and Saturday at Bob Suter's Legacy20 Arena. They then return for a 3-in-3 home weekend February 27 - March 1 at the MidAmerican Eenrgy Company RecPlex. Friday, February 27, the Bucs host the Omaha Lancers at 7:05 p.m. with 2-for-1 beer and Fireball Friday specials. Saturday, February 28, is the Bucs' annual Guns N Hoses game, benefiting Easterseals Iowa, featuring specialty jerseys and a post-game jersey auction. The Bucs will host the Sioux Falls Stampede at 7:05 p.m., and it is also Mug Club 1/2 off beverages and Tito's Saturday. Sunday, March 1, is Winger's birthday!
