HAT TRICK LIFTS HAWKS OVER BUCS 5-3

West Des Moines, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers (8-10-2-4) fell 5-3 in a hard-fought battle against the Waterloo Black Hawks (8-14-0-1) Tuesday night at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex. Salvatore Viviano led the Black Hawks offense, tallying a hat trick and the game-winning goal for Waterloo. Hawks goalie Michael Chambre (3-3-0-0) backstopped the win with 32 saves. The Bucs look ahead to a Friday night matchup against the Sioux City Musketeers Friday, Dec. 12, at 7:05 p.m. at Tyson Events Center. 

Bucs defenseman Ryland Randle opened the scoring of the game 14:02 into the first period, sending his shot from the blue line past Chambre. Randle's third goal of the season was assisted by forwards Owen Tylec and Harper Searles and saw the Bucs ahead 1-0. Defenseman Jason Davenport doubled the Bucs lead at 17:53, sending a shot off the faceoff from the top of the left-wing circle flying to the back of the net. Davenport's first USHL goal was assisted by forward Cade De St. Hubert.

Waterloo responded with four unanswered goals in the second period, the first from forward Toby Carlson on the power play at 5:18. Forward Salvatore Viviano evened the score at 2-2 at 7:46. The Black Hawks took the 3-2 lead at 14:53 with a goal from Jakeb Lynch. Viviano struck again at 17:17 to show Waterloo ahead 4-2. 

Randle brought the Bucs back within a goal with a 5-on-3 power-play tally just 55 seconds into the final frame. Randle's second goal of the night and fourth on the season was assisted by forwards Riley Zupfer and Ryan Seelinger and cut the Des Moines deficit to 4-3. Viviano closed the scoring of the game with an empty-net goal at 19:50, showing a final score of 5-3.

The Bucs look ahead a home-and-away weekend, kicking off Friday night at Tyson Events Center for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop against the Sioux City Musketeers. Saturday night is our first home Dupaco Cowbell Cup game, featuring a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Waterloo Black Hawks at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex.
