Ralston, Neb. — The Omaha Lancers (6-19-1-1) squeezed past the Des Moines Buccaneers (8-9-2-4) with a final shootout score of 3-2 Saturday night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. Omaha forward Adam Israilov buried the opening goal for the Lancers and the shootout winner. Bucs goalie Max Weilandt (8-6-2-3) suffered a shootout loss with 27 saves, outdueled by Omaha goalie Devin Shakar (4-9-1-0), who notched the victory with 35 saves.
Lancers forward Adam Israilov opened the scoring of the match for Omaha, burying a shot from the low slot at 3:13 to show the Lancers up 1-0. Bucs forward Ryland Rooney responded with his sixth goal on the season, sending a one-time shot flying to the back of the net at 18:31. Rooney's late third-period goal came off a pass from defenseman Tomas Mikel and evened the score 1-1.
Des Moines defenseman Ryland Randle tallied the lone goal of the middle frame at 9:14, finding Shakar's wide-open back door off a pass from forward Ryan Seelinger. Randle's second goal of the season brought the Bucs ahead 2-1.
Omaha forward Yegor Kim buried a rebounded shot in Weilandt's back door 13:18 into the third period to even the contest 2-2 and send the match into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, Israilov tallied the lone shootout goal, pulling the Lancers ahead 3-2.
The Bucs return home for a matchup against the Waterloo Black Hawks Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 6:35 p.m. It is $1 dog night and features a mini Lola's Fine Hot Sauce bottle giveaway!
