West Des Moines, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers (9-11-2-4) shut out the Waterloo Black Hawks (8-15-1-1) in a 4-0 victory Saturday night at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex. Bucs goalie Max Weilandt (9-7-2-3) posted his third career shutout with 17 saves on the night. The Bucs look ahead to a two-week holiday break, and their next home game is December 27 against the Tri-City Storm.
After a scoreless opening frame, Bucs forward Michael Sandruck opened the scoring of the game 5:03 into the second period, sending his shot from the crease in Chambre's back door. Sandruck's first goal of the season was assisted by forwards Harper Searles and Cade De St. Hubert and gave Des Moines the initial 1-0 lead. Bucs forward Riley Zupfer tapped in defenseman Gus Thorp's rebounded shot to double the Des Moines lead at 7:07. Forward Ryan Seelinger tallied the second assist on Zupfer's sixth goal of the season that saw the Bucs ahead 2-0. Defenseman Ryland Randle buried a power-play shot from the point at 13:35 to extend the Des Moines advantage to 3-0. Randle's fifth goal on the year was assisted by forwards Seelinger and Owen Tylec.
Bucs forward Adam Zidlicky scored on an empty net off a pass from Rhys Wallin 18:38 into the final frame for a final score of 4-0.
