BUCS TAKE WEEKEND SWEEP AGAINST HAWKS WITH 5-4 ROAD WIN

Waterloo, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers (8-5-2-3) took a weekend sweep with a 5-4 win over the Waterloo Black Hawks (5-10-0-1) in a Dupaco Cowbell Cup matchup Saturday night at Young Arena. A second-period tally for forward Theo Kiss proved to be the game-winner as Waterloo's Ty Mason made a come back attempt in the final frame. Bucs goalie Max Weilandt (8-3-2-2) stopped 18 of 22 Black Hawks shots on goal in the victory. The Bucs' next faceoff is against the Lincoln Stars Friday, Nov. 21, at 7:00 p.m. at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex.

Waterloo forward Chase Jette opened the scoring of the game with a power-play goal to give the Black Hawks the lead just 3:16 into the first period. Bucs forward Ryan Seelinger responded with his tenth goal of the season, sending a wrist shot from the right-wing circle flying to the back of the net at 5:39. Seelinger's goal was assisted by forward Rhys Wallin and evened the score at 1-1. Des Moines forward Nate Delladonna buried a pass from Wallin behind the net to show the Bucs ahead 2-1 at 13:26. Seelinger notched the secondary assist on Delladonna's seventh goal of the season.

Des Moines opened the middle frame on the power play, but Waterloo forward Toby Carlson capitalized on a 2-on-1 short-handed opportunity to even the score 2-2 just 1:35 into the second period. Bucs defenseman Keaton Orrey returned the Des Moines lead with a breakaway power-play goal at 2:52. Orrey's third goal on the season was assisted by forwards Blake Zielinski and Seelinger, showing a score of 3-2.

Defenseman Ryan Whiterabbit evened the contest once more for the Black Hawks with a power-play goal 6:48 into the middle frame. Bucs forwards Adam Zidlicky and Theo Kiss responded with back-to-back goals to show Des Moines ahead 5-3 at the end of the second period. Zidlicky's goal came at 8:00, as his wrist shot from the right-wing circle flew past Lachat off a pass from Zielinski. Kiss doubled the lead at 8:58, tapping the puck in with assists from forward Joseph Argentina and defenseman Jason Davenport to see the Bucs ahead 5-3.

Black Hawks forward Ty Mason attempted to bring Waterloo out of their deficit with a goal 11:25 into the final frame, but was ultimately unsuccessful as Des Moines took the 5-4 road win.
