West Des Moines, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers (7-5-2-3) took the 6-4 home victory over the Waterloo Black Hawks (5-9-0-1), catapulted by forward Owen Tylec's game-tying an game-winning goals to bring Des Moines out of a 4-3 deficit. Bucs forward Riley Zupfer had a stand-out performance with 4P (1G, 3A) on the night. Des Moines goalie Max Weilandt (7-3-2-2) stopped 19 of 23 shots in the victory. The Bucs head to Waterloo for a Dupaco Cowbell Cup matchup against the Black Hawks tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. at Young Arena.
Bucs forward Blake Zielinski opened the scoring of the contest just 3:36 into the first period, sending a one-time shot flying into Chambre's back door. Forward Riley Zupfer tallied the lone assist on Zielinski's third goal of the season that gave Des Moines the early 1-0 lead. Ryan Seelinger doubled the Bucs advantage at 6:04, skating through Black Hawks defenders and sending his back-handed shot past Chambre to bring the score to 2-0. Seelinger's ninth goal of the season was assisted by forward Rhys Wallin. Wallin tallied his fourth goal of the season, burying a pass from Seelinger to see Des Moines ahead 3-0. Defenseman Gus Thorp notched the secondary assist on Wallin's goal at 9:32.
Waterloo responded with a series of late first-period goals, the first from forward Salvatore Viviano at 9:52. A pair from forwards Dylan Nolan and Owen Degraff at 13:35 and 13:55 showed a score of 3-3. The Hawks pulled ahead 4-3 with a tally from Tyler Deakos at 16:50.
Bucs forward Owen Tylec tallied the lone goal of the middle frame at 4:47, catching Chambre out of his net for his third goal of the season. Tylec's goal was assisted by defenseman Jason Davenport and Zupfer to even the score at 4-4.
Tylec struck again 4:19 into the third period, sneaking in the game-winning goal with an assist from Zupfer. Tylec's fourth goal of the season and second of the night brought the Bucs ahead 5-4. Zupfer sealed the victory for Des Moines with a short-handed empty-net goal at 19:31, assisted by Harper Searles, to show a final score of 6-4.
The Bucs head to Waterloo for a Dupaco Cowbell Cup matchup against the Black Hawks Saturday, Nov. 15, at 6:35 p.m. at Young Arena. The Bucs return to the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex to host a pair of games Nov. 21 and 22. Friday, Nov. 21, the Bucs host the Lincoln Stars for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.
