West Des Moines, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers (6-3-2-3) pushed past the Tri-City Storm (7-6-1-1) in a 3-2 shootout victory Saturday night at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex. A late third-period goal by Des Moines forward Blake Zielinski saw the contest push into overtime, and a scoreless extra period turned into a shootout. Bucs goalie Max Weilandt (6-2-2-2) turned away all three shootout attempts by the Storm, while Tri-City goalie Michal Pradel (6-4-1-1) could not stop Bucs forward Ryan Seelinger's shootout attempt. The Bucs look forward to a double-header against the Muskegon Lumberjacks next Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8, at Trinity Health Arena in Muskegon.
Des Moines forward Owen Tylec opened the scoring of the match 9:14 into the opening period, sending home a tic-tac-toe play from forwards Luke Norcross and Ryan Seelinger. Tylec's second goal of the season gave the Bucs the initial 1-0 lead.
Storm forward Carson Pilgrim tallied the lone goal of the second period, assisted by Samuel Murin and Luca Jarvis to even the match 1-1. Pilgrim's shot from the slot found its way past Weilandt at 16:57.
Storm defenseman Bode Laylin notched a power-play goal 6:05 into the final frame, assisted by Pilgrim and Gairin Michalski to bring Tri-City ahead 2-1. Forward Blake Zielinski evened the score, sending the match into overtime with a power-play goal less than three seconds before the end of regulation, assisted by forwards Adam Zidlicky and Riley Zupfer.
A scoreless overtime saw the match progress into a shootout. Bucs goalie Max Weilandt stopped all three Storm shootout attempts, while Des Moines forward Ryan Seelinger was able to slip a puck past Pradel to secure the Bucs' 3-2 victory.
The Bucs look ahead to a double-header in Muskegon next weekend, kicking off with a 7 p.m. puck drop against the Lumberjack Friday, Nov. 7, at Trinity Health Arena. The Buccaneers' next home game is Nov. 14, and it is Veteran's Appreciation Night presented by AMP Electric, featuring a baseball cap giveaway and specialty jerseys. It is also Fireball Friday and 2-for-1 beer night.
