WATERLOO, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers (5-4-0-1) lost a low-scoring Dupaco Cowbell Cup matchup against the Waterloo Black Hawks (7-0-1-0) Saturday night at Young Arena. Waterloo held the lead from their first goal from Cody Sokol midway through the opening period. Black Hawks goalie Sebastian Charvat backstopped the win with 32 saves on 33 shots, while Bucs goalie Jon Kavcic (3-3-0-0) stopped 28 shots in the defeat.

Waterloo's top-scoring forward Cody Sokol netted the first goal of the night once again, this time 13:13 into the opening period, shoving the puck past Kavcic to make it 1-0.

Troy Hunka doubled the Waterloo lead, sending a one-time shot back-door off a two-on-one chance late in the middle frame. Hunka's first goal on the season at 18:28 showed a score of 2-0.

Bucs forward Riley Zupfer cut the lead in half with a power-play goal 8:27 into the third period. Zupfer's fourth goal of the season was assisted by defenseman Becker Wenkus and showed a final score of 2-1.
