Sioux City, Iowa — The Des Moines Buccaneers (8-11-2-4) fell to the Sioux City Musketeers (12-15-1-0) in a hard-fought 4-3 contest Friday night at Tyson Events Center. Trey Jefferis led the Musketeers offense with two goals and a power-play game-tying goal in the final frame. After allowing battling to a 3-2 lead early in the third period, the Bucs let up two late-game goals for a final score of 4-3. The Bucs return home tomorrow night to host a Dupaco Cowbell Cup matchup against the Waterloo Black Hawks at 7:05 p.m. at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex.
Sioux City forward Trey Jefferis opened the scoring of the match just 56 seconds into the first period, tapping in a rebounded shot to give the Musketeers the early 1-0 lead. Defenseman Shayne Gould doubled the Sioux City advantage at 17:37, showing the Musketeers ahead 2-0.
Bucs forward Riley Zupfer cut the Des Moines deficit in half just 1:56 into the middle frame, sneaking defenseman Ryland Randle's rebounded shot past Fichthorn. Forward Nate Delladonna had the secondary assist on Zupfer's fifth goal of the season that brought the score to 2-1. Forward Adam Zidlicky erased the Musketeers' lead with a goal at 18:13, sending another rebound past Fichthorn to show a score of 2-2. Zidlicky's third goal of the season was assisted by defenseman Landon Cottingham and forward Ryan Seelinger.
Bucs forward Ryland Rooney found the back of the net on the power play 3:14 into the final frame, assisted by forwards Owen Tylec and Seelinger. Rooney's seventh goal on the season showed Des Moines ahead 3-2. Jefferis responded with a power-play goal from the slot for the Musketeers at 10:59, evening the score 3-3. Sioux City forward Dallas Vieau scored the final goal of the contest, tipping in a shot from the blue line at 16:48, to show a final score of 4-3 in favor of the Musketeers.
