The Des Moines Buccaneers are proud to announce that Joe Gleason and Nick Pryor were selected in the 2008 NHL Draft on Saturday. Both defensemen were added to the Buccaneers roster following the 2008-2009 Invitational Camp this past week. Joe Gleason was the 192nd pick in the 7th Round by the Chicago Blackhawks. Gleason just finished his senior year at Edina High School where he finished the season with 6 goals and 26 assists. Gleason was acquired from the Green Bay Gamblers in a draft day trade. He will attend the University of North Dakota after his career with the Buccaneers. Nick Pryor was chosen 208th in the 7th Round by the Anaheim Ducks. Pryor was targeted in the 2006 USHL futures draft. A Woodbury, MN native, Pryor played at Hill-Murray High School before joining the U.S. National Team Development Program last season. He is committed to Wisconsin for the 2009 season. A total of 28 USHL players, including 18 who have already played in the leauge and ten who are expected to play next season, were hand picked by NHL teams over the weekend.
Congratulations to season ticket holder Stuart Campbell of West Des Moines, our winner of the "Fly-Away" promotion for two round-trip tickets to Las Vegas. Head Coach J.P. Parise drew Stuart's name from nearly 200 entries during the invitational camp held last week.
After three long days of competition, Head Coach J.P. Parise and Associate Head Coach Scott McConnell announced 25 players who made the cut from camp. The Buccaneers now have 30 players on their protected list and are a few steps closer to selecting the 2008-2009 Buccaneers. The following players were selected at the Buccaneers Invitational Camp. NHL Players Zach Parise, Drew Stafford, AHL goaltender Jordan Parise, and Former Buccaneer Marty Mjelleli have been announced as guest coaches for the Buccaneers Invitational Camp. Zach and Jordan Parise are sons of Buccaneers Head Coach, J.P. Parise. Zach plays for the New Jersey Devils, while Jordan is in the Devils organization playing for their AHL affiliate the Lowell Devils. Drew Stafford is a forward with the Buffalo Sabres, he played at Shattuck St. Mary's prep school before attending North Dakota. Marty Mjelleli is a former Buccaneer who just finished his senior year at St. Cloud State University. Marty was the captain of the Buccaneers in 2004.
Next seasons Buccaneers roster began to take shape following the 2008-2009 USHL Draft on Wednesday. Head Coach JP Parise and Associate Head Coach Scott McConnell added 15 to their list of potential players through the draft and trade.
